Contractor deposit calculator
Split a job total into a deposit, a progress payment and the final balance. If a deposit limit applies to you, enter it as a cap. Nothing is saved or sent anywhere.
Some states and cities limit the deposit a contractor may take on some jobs. This calculator does not know those rules; check yours and enter any limit as the cap. Each payment is rounded to the cent and the final payment takes the remainder, so the three always add up to the total. Example numbers, not typical rates: replace every one with your own.
How it works
Deposit = job total × deposit %, or the cap if that is lower. Progress payment = job total × progress %. Final payment = job total − deposit − progress payment.
Worked example (the values above): on an $8,450.00 job, a 25% deposit is $2,112.50 and a 40% progress payment is $3,380.00, leaving a final payment of $8,450.00 − $2,112.50 − $3,380.00 = $2,957.50. With a $1,000.00 deposit cap, the deposit becomes $1,000.00 (11.8% of the total) and the final payment $4,070.00.
Work out the job total with the handyman pricing calculator or the painting estimate calculator. See also all calculators.
